of coarse you should. if there's not honesty, what do we have? there's no point otherwise.

Damned straight!
There is no shame in pointing out "Hey, you know the picture would look alot better without your thumb over the subjects face" and similar constructive criticism. If the recipient is squeemish about receiving honest (hopefully) opinions then they should indicate that they would prefer not to receive comments or disable them entirely.
Why else should such an option exist in the interface?

I think everyone will click yes, but the truth is most of them can't handle it. Their feelings will get hurt, they'll cry about it later, write a despressing journal and start posting the typical wrist cutting crap the floods DA.

I asked the same question once, I started getting angry comments or comments like, I like it this way, I don't want to change sort of messages.

or people that say they understand and want help but in their very next post it's the same mistakes repeated, they don't learn. DA isn't about critiques, it's a popularity contest. Only select people mature enough to take the critiques will benefit...which unfortunately is a small percentage. Hopefully as DA members mature so will the overall community, but it seems to me that the more mature members get, usually they leave.

I suppose once the quality of your work has reached beyond the masses of DA, they can't give critiques, only the top few have something to offer, you need professional photographers/artists with more expertise to help. Personally I prefer more professional sites such as photosig, sportsshooter, etc for critiques, if I'm going for a hit count, DA is the place...which maybe is why I haven't really posted much this summer.

With the wisdom on photography you have, I say Yes!! I feel that your letting me know your thoughts on my shots, has directly helped me as a photographer!! Convincing me to frame and sign my shots, has definately improved my gallery.. We can all learn from you and other experienced photographers.. I wish more people would share their knowledge....

Yes, you should! Good or crit. on how to improve I'll take any day. I don't see how one can grow as a photographer or an artist without honest crit.
As has been previously mentioned, not every one is open to it, but hey you gotta take the good with the bad.

I really could care less about getting a "nice shot" comment, without knowing what was liked about it.

For those of us that have never had formal training- it's a GREAT help to know what we might try to do better next time.

besides, if someone doesn't want critique then they should click that button. :D Have a Great WEEKEND!

Be honest.....or comment when you feel its necessary. If you're unimpressed with a piece of work just don't say anything. Remember to always take note of the critique asked for at the bottom....but if they say negative is welcome go for it.

They're your comments hun, say what you feel. Isn't the point of this place for constructive criticism as well as praise?
