Been awhile since I wrote one of these journals. Probably far to long really. Just some random questions that have been floating around inside my creative mind for awhile.

Is every site you go to, outside your own personal website/blog/photography forum a popularity contest these days?

Why must photographers act like this?
[link] Side note-- it has a positive about it too within the article

Why is it so damn hard to sell a wildlife photo outside of something that isn't a cute little Fox?

Facebook is going to produce a cell phone and the camera inside is Instagram
[link] Interesting.....just what the world needs. NOT.

Please see #9
[link] (just trust me on this! Do it! NOW!)

I wonder if there actually enough storage space in the entire world for all the photos which are being taken these days. Cameras are everywhere.

What is the attraction with this whole Pony thing? Call me lost. Call me even more lost when I see people posing a Pony doll and taking photos of it with a nifty 50.

Why are there some volunteers who have been volunteers longer than they have been members of the site itself (or so it seems?) New blood means new work. Put a limit of 6 months served and you can only do it once. /end of discussion

Why do some prefer borders on their photos while others don't?

This makes me sad
[link] Watch between the minutes of 15-20 minutes. And watch one very famous photographer commit © theft right before your eyes. At a conference FOR photographers no less. Sigh.....

Got one of my shots published finally on the cover of a novel
[link] Sure took long enough

Know what makes me smile? When DA staff is genuine and actually gives a damn
[link] unlike many others. That though made me smile, greatly.
Happy Wednesday!

Yes and no one pays attention to anyone that isn't famous.

Couldn't care less about what FB is doing.

True... sometimes I wonder the same.

This is ridiculous. Couldn't he share the entire article???

Congratulations!!!!
but yes, pretty much on every on social networking site it becomes a popularity contest, you can't escape no matter how much you try.
glad DA finally took on your suggestion about their camera bag. funny they did not mention anything about the price though.
congrats on getting published for the cover.
In regards to popularity, I have the front page set to newest deviations, rather than the most popular rubbish (because we all know a blurry photo of a cute wolf or fox in a zoo is a much better photo than Mr De Bord's sunflower photos, right?). Yes, dA amongst many websites is a popularity contest. But I'm too stubborn and loyal to move, so I just filter out the pop stuff, and ignore most of it. And I must admit, I'm starting to ignore a lot of the whinging about how dA used to be or should be.
The link to the social network sites was amusing, and thanks to it, I checked out Stickam. I say thanks, because on that site I came across a talented Dutch band called Wet T-Shirt Contest. They sound a bit garage-y, but that is because it looks like that is exactly where they are recording! If they used a semi-decent studio and mixing gear they would sound terrific (depending on your personal music taste, of course).
Congrats on the publication!
Good to see that Last.fm is doing well. I've been a member since 2004, and it's a godsend for finding out about artists that you might not otherwise know about, particular outside of the mainstream.
As far as that © theft it's really disturbing, i didn't even know screen cap programs like that existed. Sigh..seems to be fair use when somebody famous like he does it (it generates exposure for the photographers etc.) and no eyebrows are raised..hmmm..
On a positive note, dA staff gave a damn ?
It seems so that everything is a damn popularity contest no matter what site you are on, i just read throug your post on G+ the one that links back to a jounal here. And i think `Davenit has many great points in his post. I also noticed here on dA after they changed the front page system people started to put their photos in all kind of weird categories just to get on the most popular page..it's sad to see that.
Great post John, many great questions and i had me a laugh about the pony comment and fb camera
