You know what someone should do?
Create a running list of groups which are nothing short of assholes.
I recently has the "pleasure" of running into 2 such groups ran by the same person which were "animal based" groups, who apparently thinks that they are all that when it comes to wildlife photography. Yeah...because you take a few snapshots of a badly composed Bald Eagle in a zoo along with poorly lit photos of your cat, you suddenly think you are the be all and and all when it comes to photographing animals in the wild. Needless to say they got schooled.

This is one of the biggest problems with DA, you have kids running around here thinking that they are "all that" in a group environment. Pissing people off constantly. Most don't even know how to use the correct Fstop or things like EV compensation when shooting and probably shoot in "Running man mode" when taking a picture. It is pretty sad really, that these people are in the position in which they feel like they are some sort of authority and yet do not know a dang thing.

I am really tempted to name these 2 groups so the rest of you don't have to deal with the idiocy which they are. However I am above that and if you want to know, simply ask and I will note you their names so you can avoid them. Meanwhile I will sit around and daydream how I wish groups on DA were like flickr.

How can you be a professional photographer and be saying bad things about other photographers? That's just not right, not at all. Since you're an admin of deviantART shouldn't you be acting polite around the other members?

I am not an admin on DA and I have no idea why you would think that, nor would I ever want to be one either. I don't like many things about this website & the way which is run and I think many of my watchers/followers will tell you that. I may be a professional photographer but that doesn't mean I also don't have a right to express my opinion and my thoughts within my own journal, does it now? Of course not.

With the way you wrote this journal it sounds like you're saying you have all of this authority. And yes, I agree that you have a right to express your thoughts and opinions in your journal, but hammering these groups and people, isn't right. :(
People have their own style of photography, and you should appreciate that. So what if my friend's photos may not be as good as yours? What if she's not a professional? I'm sure at one point your photos were just the same. We all start somewhere, right? The only reason you're saying such horrible things about these groups is because of your own personal feelings against the people who run it. The groups aren't bad at all. They're splendid and you know that. Or you should at least. You were declined because of specific rules. You're not "all that" when it comes to rules, not quality.

Nope, no authority at all, none, nor would I ever want any. As far as hammering groups and all that jazz, I would disagree with you there. Many around here are a joke run by people who have no idea what they are talking about or even what a good photo is. Then again though this should expected, this is DA we are talking about and not 500px [link]
We all start somewhere sure and I would agree with that however I don't think you are quite getting the gist of what happened. Maybe I should have added in my journal that I was very disrespected with what was said to me when they declined the image. Not all groups are bad, there are some very good ones on here and I run my own group #Photography-APN That being said, the bad are starting to outnumber the good. Splendid? I wouldn't use that word. Splendid would fit some of the groups which I am a member of on flickr which actually have a running dialogue with their members. A good example would be the Lightroom group on flcikre [link] however there are thousands. It is a place to learn and to better yourself, where as DA? They are all about getting favs. There are no forums to talk, just blogs which are like journals and with those? All rules and nothing more especially. Now as far as being declined because of rules and not quality? Actually see that is where you are wrong. My image was declined because of that very issue, never mind it is hard as hell to get a wildlife shot when the subject is buried in the brush, getting your focus where it matters, is sharp too. That takes skill and technical ability. However when you are an admin who photographs cats? Just yeah, probably out of your league there just a weeeee little bit. Just sayin'.
