Winter's Pines by kkart Winter's Pines by kkart
Captured yesterday in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park, using my Tamron 200-400, I was panning trying to find something that was rather unique....I really love doing shots like this at a long focal length, it is always unique what you can see that you would otherwise miss. I decided to shoot this with in camera HDR to really nail the subtle light...the wind up here was really gusting and the snow blowing hard, as you can see from the side of Hallet Peak behind it, and the changing conditions over the ridgeline to the top left.

I hope you enjoy it
John

Thanks, in camera HDR is quite different, and there is no tone mapping involved, it is very similar to the effects one would get shooting with a Grad ND

Indeed!
Some of the brand new Sony dslr's are able to do this and so are Pentax

Nice :D

I'll just remain to my bracketing until a future upgrade (many years in the future :P).

Btw, how do the sony dslrs generate the HDR? Do hear it bracketing the exposure or does it use the information from a single RAW? Just asking because if it uses a single RAW, than the algorithm can be taken of camera into a PC :D

How do they generate a HDR is kind of interesting, best as I can tell it shoots 2 RAW files and then combines them into one exposure, the camera does the aligning so it is really spot on. There are a lot of different settings for it, HDR +1, 2. 3. etc

and good luck with trying to get a shot with snow in Denver as the snow will be all melted by the afternoon. That's a brilliant shot, love the fact it pans upward instead of horizontally. It kind of reminds me of the shots of the Himalayas and how huge those mountains are. Love how well the color came out on this as well.
