Description

Winter Along The Range

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado....

As a winter storm rolls in over the Colorado Rockies, the sun rises in diffused light caused from the blowing snow off the floor of Moraine Valley. I was honestly freezing when I shot this photograph, completely chilled to the bone, but the lightplay was remarkable, and the atmosphere of the weather made it all worth it's wild. It is scenes like this I love not only photographing but also standing in nature's solitude, witnessing. Some of you may remember the Coyote shots I uploaded a few months back, the valley below is the area where those were shot and where they hunt in packs at.

Hope ya all like it!

When I first saw this photo, I wasn't too interested in it, it just didn't do anything for me, but I have seen it a couple of times since then and it has really started growing on me.

First of all, I like the play in light and shadow, starting with the shadow on the bottom and then the light in the field and shadow in the mid ground mountains followed by the lit high peaks and ending with the dark clouds.

The clouds really add to the drama of this photo and in my opinion makes this photo, I assume you did some dodging and burning to get this appearance.

I think what turned me off of this in the beginning was the lack of a foreground. The tree in the lower right and the three pines on the lower left are nice, but other than that, there really isn't anything in the foreground, and that in my opinion hurts an otherwise dramatic image
