When Day Becomes Night by kkart When Day Becomes Night by kkart
Photo Thoughts--- This was the sunset Tuesday evening over the Colorado Rockies and the National Wind Research Center outside of Boulder. It is kind of funny, I was REALLY trying to get to a location to shoot this sunset as my original location was blocked off because the dang highway was shut down. So driving around like a bat out of hell trying to get to a spot I finally found a couple that would work. At first I wasn't to keen on the green energy windmills but then I thought to myself that maybe I should actually try to work it into the composition and actually try to have a shot that would go beyond just a landscape. It wasn't exactly easy and quite challenging to try and do that as the landscape was just massive in size....one of those views that you can never have a wide enough angle lens for. If I zoomed in, I would lose the sky completely, so that wouldn't work obviously. In the end I decided to go with this composition which I felt was the strongest. I used my tripod, a wireless shutter release, a CPL and a 4 Grad ND to get it all. It was really a sight to see and photograph!

John, I love this shot.  I was wondering if you would give permission for me to use this image (linked back to you, of course) in a newsletter I edit called "Small Wind News."  It goes out to about 3000 wind energy professionals, and is funded by the US Dept of Energy, which runs the National Wind Test Site you show in the corner.  Unfortunately, because we are government funded, we are not allowed to pay for photos in our publications (have to be good stewards of the taxpayers' funds and all that).  We run lots of photos of wind turbines, but it would be great to have something that is a different and more artistic perspective.
I understand if you want to save this for some other purpose.  Just thought I'd ask.
