And all you heard were the Elk bugling away in the distance. Cold as heck, but dang, was it ever gorgeous with the steam & fog rising off the lake. It is moments like this I live for!
Fantastic scene to say the least, very much wish I could have been next to you when you took this.
That said there are a few things niggling me about this shot. I understand what you were after when you cropped more of the water in the bottom of the frame, but to me it's just empty space that doesn't really add much to the image. The eye is directly drawn straight to it's emptyness and it's a bit of a let down. I would have liked to see more of the sky, and less of the water.
Great colours though, and I like how you have mitigated the slight over-exposure of the sun rise, I think it's nicely done.
Something else that may have been a fantastic addition to this image would have been an even slower shutter speed to remove what was left of the water's ripple effect on the reflection's edge. You would have also captured more of the fantastic steam I see rising from the water. Could have been magical. But I guess that's just preference.
Where do I start with this one John.. Seriously one of the most calming shots I've discovered here on Deviantart. The whole shot is balanced nicely with a simple yet extremely powerful composition which is rather detailed for being silhouetted. The lighting speaks for itself, very dynamic and warm which really gives this shot it's atmosphere.
I love how the reflection is diffused by the gentle ripples in the waters surface, creates a feeling of serenity as if I'm sitting there lapping up the sun enjoying some wine and crackers
I by far think this is your best shot to date John, truly amazing capture, god bless.
