Under a Watchful Eye
I want to say a few things about this shot. "Under A Watchful Eye" says it all...in fact, he was watching everyone CLOSE! This was captured during the Elk Rut in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park. He was a MASSIVELY HUGE Bull, one of the largest I had ever seen. And everyone has heard me talk about idiots in wildlife and how some people put their lives in complete jeopardy and danger, teetering on death when it comes to wild animals. Sadly, this IS one of those very shots where this happened at. Remember the story I told you all about the family who let thie little kid who was like 4 or 5 get literally FEET away from a Bull Elk during the Elk Rut? THIS IS THAT BULL ELK! Yes, this is the VERY Bull Elk I spoke of. Bull Elk this time of the year are some of the most unpredictable, deadly, and completely dangerous animals on the face of the earth. During the Rut (mating season) I have seen them personally attack cars, chase people, and run wild through parked cars with tourists hanging out the window shooting pics. Don't believe me? Allow my scraps gallery to illustrate this VERY scene with this Bull just moments AFTER I snapped this shot. Lack Of Respect 1 (Ya bud I THINK it's time for you to pack up your stupid folding chair and picknick accessories) Lack Of Respect 2 (Ya I think Mr Bull Elk had enough of tourists for the day and oh, ya, see how big he is, notice the size of the cars?? He just got through running all those morons with point and shoots for their lives after rampaging through the traffic!) Lack Of Respect 3 (At this point shortly after he headed fro higher ground, the Park Rangers FINALLY showed up, and you see the guy in the blue shorts? I SCREAMED at that guy, and said "WTF are you doing! You are going to get yourself killed, back the hell up from him NOW! This is mating season for God's sakes!" He just looked at me, and 2 minutes later, he was running faster than a damn Kenyan!) So ya, there ya have it! Folks, ALWAYS respect wildlife, and never ever take it for granted! John Comments

-- -- -- -- - =Wonderful-World - =macro-club - =SkyAndNatureClub - ~stopBSL Went for a walk with my three year old son in a park with elk. He was riding on my shoulders as i went up a hill. At the top of the hill was a large elk. I very quietly backtracked my butt out of there as Danny just stared in wonder. I have always wondered if that elk was thinking, "okay stupid human...i'll let you slide this time..." He could'a made mincemeat outt'a me real quick if he had wanted to.
This is a great shot you have here! Plenty of balance, plenty of space, and just a touch of running water! Gorgeous piece of work! -- John, your deviantART Gallery Moderator of Photography>Animals, Plants & Nature jdebordphoto.com my website |
