Every now and then I like to step outside my boundary of usual subject matter and do something really different. And I love to do images that are very thought provoking, deep, and moving. This is one of those images. Captured outside the town of Central City, Colorado, I happened by this scene by luck, along with the other 2 cemeteries close by it. Long closed, these are the real deal wild west cemeteries, long forgotten, long not seen. Looking like a scene out of the movie " Pale Rider".....I had to photograph it. The ruts in the ground were still visible from where the old wagons used to carry the bodies up from the town. Quite an amazing place .
Thoughts welcomed, print coming, and Happy Halloween

Wow! Great shot! Your work is phenomenal - very inspiring!
I am retiring from Safeway. My last day is May 17th. Yeah! The cemeteries around Central City and Dory Hill are one of the many, many places where I want to start enjoying having more time to take photographs. So many that I don't remember them all. Thanks for this great reminder!
If you have any interest in the history of this area, check out "John Gregory Country" by Charles and Mary Ramstetter (mostly Mary - she worked on this book for 21 years). History of Golden Gate Canyon, Clear Creek and Ralston. Lots of old photos, stories and newspaper articles. You can find it at local libraries. If you like it, I would recommend waiting to buy it. She has compiled a lot more information since the original printing. An updated version with 100 more pages is at the publisher's and will be released soon. I know all this because these are my folks.
well, there are lot of emotions.. It feels like so cold, scary - 'cause nobody knows, what's there behind the gate.. But the gate is open, so there's also point of kindness, I think..
