The Colorful Canyon Forest by kkart The Colorful Canyon Forest by kkart
Rural Gilpin County, Colorado
Anyone who has shoot with me during Autumn knows that I am a complete sucker for road shots, dirt roads surrounded by yellow and gold Aspen trees in particular and this one had me from hello. I loved the way the hillside was just covered and how it's lines gave a nice composition with the road and the stand on the right side. Not to mention the blue sky.... It is so quiet out here...I can't wait to get back next Fall. Just a stunning area to photograph.

I went ahead and shot this using the in camera HDR ability of my Sony a550 along with a Grad ND and CPL on my Minolta 18-200mm lens.

I hope you all like it
John

This is wonderful! I really wish the camera data were included with this one. I am just really getting into photography to the point where I am now ready to purchase my own SLR to play around with. I like looking at photographs to see what settings people were using to get the results they did.

CPL, GND and HDR too? sounds overkill... :)

Sounds it but it works! :P I have really liked the results I have gotten with it thus far. The HDR is done in camera and comes out very natural. It comes in handy when the stops are just enormous. CPL is just mandatory stuff for Fall foliage.

Agreed. I really regret not getting a 77mm CPL for my ultrawide angle earlier.

It seems a lot of the time UW's and CPLs can be hit or miss with vignetting. I don't have a UW though I have been thinking about the Tokina 11-16

Vignetting doesn't bother me much, I have a slim CPL. Even with the wide Cokin system added on top of that, I can go as wide as 11 mm (Nikon DX, which has 1,5x crop). However, with an additional B+W ND110 and the normal P holder, it's only good up to 14 mm. But at my current financial state, I can't afford the Lee system to overcome these millimeters. I just take a few step back and give up perspective. =/

Finances suck, don't even get me started lol Have you looked at the Cokin X Pro system at all? I couple of the guys I shoot with use it and are very happy with using it with a wide angle setup. It just isn't cheap nor easy to find. I have problems with vignetting if I use a ND bolted to my lens along with the Cokin P system and have pretty much gone the way of using stacked Cokin P style ND8's along with a Cokin P style CPL to completely alleviate it. I have been very happy with the results [link] I use Fotodiox filters in case you were wondering that fit the P system

Yes, I know the X-pro system, but it's not future- (read: full frame-) proof. The Lee holder is much better (dispite being smaller), with 2 slots it's vignetting free at 16mm (35mm eq.). The Lee holder system equals in size to the Cokin Z-pro system, so a wide range of Cokin filters would be accessible. The CPL system of Lee is weird though: a 105mm threaded filter comes in front of the square filters. 105mm filters cost a lot though... :XD:

That is strange with the CPL Lee filter, didn't know that. A lot don't know this but Tiffen makes some pretty killer square/rectangle filters [link] They sell them in a ton of different sizes too. They are anything but cheap though, up there with Singh-Ray cost

Gorgeous, the sky looks so beautiful it almost looks fake. I have a friend who loves skies like those. Lovely colors. ^.^ I'm not so great with composition, but I almost feel more sky would be lovely, maybe a vertical shot. Beautoful!
