I always wanted the classic Elk shot during the Elk Rut, the whole "steam coming out of the mouth and nose", etc...this past Autumn I was finally able to get a shot I always wanted and this is it. Captured on a very cold, snow, rain, and sleeting day in Rocky Mountain National Park along with =daskibum and =Glitch-Chaos More to come.
I hope you all like it ---John

Wow! This is an amazing shot! I love how you caught the the elk's breath. The coloring is perfect considering you stated the weather was awful! The green trees for the background has really brought out the elk more almost presenting him. And the pose he is in is wonderful! Just look at the quality of the muscles you can see and the fur/hair! The detail in the in the grass is awesome.
I will admit though...I can't help but keep looking at the grass because there is so much detail there. He could also use a tad bit more of contrast to bring out the antlers and the his colors more into view.
Overall this is a wonderful photo. I love how you caught the shot you've always wanted. It's very inspiring! I love it and I can't wait to see more! ^^
This is my favorite of them all, I've had elk run by me no more than five feet away and seen them up close many times (not hunting them). You have captured the majesty of the Bull in this shot like I've never seen. 5's
