Pike's At Dawn by kkart Pike's At Dawn by kkart
As soon as I submit this, I am heading back to bed, still quite sick.

New Years Day morning.

Anyways, shot on the first day of our winter photo meetup at Garden Of The Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was utterly freezing out, my face was numb actually from the cold...but it was worth it all! The light was beautiful, so subtle and had this great glow about it. About 3.5 seconds for exposure on this shot.

Hope you all like it
John

Never mind the comments from the annoying little people. Just look at their galleries and realize they should look at their own photos with the criticism level they impose on other's. It's fucking ridiculous. The kind of crap you don't get on RedBubble.

I say this only because I know this site, but it seems you may have over edited it. Like, did you use a photo filter on photo shop? I think it may have been used too heavily. Great shot other than that.

hey I just wanted to say sorry if I came off harsh to you, I apologize. I responded in haste and it was bad timing on my end as I had just found my Dad had a heart attack and stroke. I am sorry if I came across as rough on you.

Nope, it is as out of camera as you can get. All about exposure sweetie, read my comments :) And notice the gear it was shot with, Grads being one of them. But it probably isn't best to say something like that when you have this to begin with [link] I'm just sayin'

This is probably kind of an amateur question.
But on dslr cameras, can you choose any exposure lengths and shutter speeds (within reason of course)
Or are they just settings?
I only have a digital camera, but there were some great shots I missed out on multiple times when i went fishing,
because I couldn't do lets say a 3 or 4 second shutter speed. My camera only has 15, 30, and 60 second shutter speeds,
and they're in the night time mode.

Kind of both, it isn't really automatic though by switching to shutter priority you can dial in exposure times and depending on the time of the day it is and how long you want the exposure to be, filters such as neutral density filters, may have to be used. You can also switch to manual exposure, and by using bulb mode, you can take exposures of several minutes. This is one area that dslr's excel in compared to point and shoots, long exposure photography
