Parked For The Last Time

Idaho Springs, Colorado

A town that I have always wanted to spend some time shooting but never really have gotten much of a chance to do so. After my recent photoshoot at Mount Evans I had a little time to kill so I thought I would venture into Idaho Springs and do some hunting. And this is one of the things that really caught my eye!

The Argo Gold Mine is one place in particular I wanted to get to, not so much tour it (though that would be awesome!) but rather shoot it, it's exterior, and kind of study it ...see what I could all find. And this was one of the gems I found.

What I figure is about a 1961 Chevy Truck just sat idle...parked for a long time, and it was beckoning me to shoot it...so I went ahead and framed it the best that I could with it's immediate surroundings in the background...the impending thunderstorm clouds approaching over the ridge, and the distant rumbles of thunder...it really kind of made for a dramatic and almost eerie scene in a sense.

I wonder who owned it, what part it all played in the mine, and what stories it could tell if it could talk....

HDR, Lightroom, PS

Hope ya all like it!
John

thunderstorm's clouds are magic! The shot is incredible and for some reason I feel very attracted to the old workshop in the middle of the image, the details perceived are amazing!

What an awesome adventure! I'm envious of all those cool places you get to visit *G*

I think that if vehicles had any sense of loyalty, this truck, would be like a loyal old German Shepherd. It has that look of having spent it's whole life in service, and as though it's sitting there remembering all the hard work it's put in during it's lifetime. If trucks could be wise, I would call this a very wise truck.

(Yes, only I can figure out a way to compare a truck to a dog ;0P)

Looks like that mine has seen better days.My favorite mine in Utah was Ophir, but it was a silver mine and there is actually people still living there, although the actual gold mine is in Mercer, not too far down the road and hasn't been occupied since the 1950s. What I find interesting about it is that there are a TON of Government signs in Mercer with a fence 20 feet high but in Ophir, it's all open. Perhaps there is still lots of gold in Mercer.

Anyway, sorry for that, lol. I like the colors in your shot, a bit murky and I definitely get a sense of "loneliness" looking at it. Perhaps who ever owned the truck might own the land?
