More Than A Mouthfulby `kkart

Captured this guy at Chatfield State Park here in Colorado. Not much to photograph when I was there except this guy who gave me more time than I have ever been allowed by any Meadowlark, 15 minutes! Generally they are quite flighty birds but not this guy as he sat perched atop of Mullen making his chirping call for many minutes, complete with a beak full of the finest bugs known! LOL I had to laugh, it was as if this guy pulled up a seat at the local all you can eat buffet and completely went to town. To get the shot I used my Puffin Pad to anchor my Tamron 200-400, couple by my Sony a550's in body 2x TC I shot away giving an effective focal length of 800mm film or 1200mm digital (whatever I guess it works out to, math is NOT my strong point and never has been) This technique of using my in camera TC isn't something I do often but I have to say, it really allowed me to get this shots which I am quite pleased with. Fun stuff trying to keep a lens steady at that length lol Anyways, I hope you all enjoy it

Really nice shot, John.
I would make one point though. I believe that you were really stressing the bird by spending so much time at that location.
That food is for the young birds. Adult birds sit around yelling and holding food because they are being prevented from feeding their young.
You must have been too close to the babies and the parent didn't want to draw attention to the young.
