Landscape of the Lord

St. Malo outside of Estes Park, Colorado. One of thee most photographed Churches in all of North America, I was VERY excited and VERY anxious to get this shot when I headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park. I was hoping that the weather would clear because behind this, covered in the clouds, is Mt. Meeker and it is just a stunning view with the mountains! *yenom has a shot here of it [link] and so does ~daskibum [link] that shows the mountains behind the Church. I have to admit though, I am really happy how this came out. And if anything, it is quite unique compared to how it is usually shot. I suppose that is a good thing when it comes to photographing something that is such an icon. Generally, people walk down by the pond and shoot from there, I stayed up top on the side of the road, thus giving a different perspective than most. Also, the weather. It was dramatic as all heck! You could smell the rain as it came in, dark, but with so much drama in the sky. I was pretty lucky to get a shot like this. Ya, I am happy with it! For history on St. Malo, please see this link here

Thoughts welcomed, print to come!

Looks like my very own personal castle in the middle of Colorado. The darkening sky really adds mood to this too, well done!

This is a spectacular shot of this beautiful church! Thanks for the link. God is such a Master Artist. We are all made in the image of the Creator. We just don't all know it. How wonderful when someone endowed with His creative nature uses His gift to create this beautiful house of the Lord, and when someone like you gets a stunning photo like this! Thanks for sharing!

Your composition is far superior to the two linked and the brooding sky just tops it off wonderfully

Fantastic capture. Looking at the other photos you have linked, I can see why you
would want to get the mountain into the image. However, I love the colors in your
capture. Also, I think you chose a much better angle and composition. Well done!

Ok, this may be slightly blasphemous because this is a picture of a church, but it looks like a medieval wizard’s castle to me.

I can just picture the wizard standing by the pond, arms raised, the dark clouds rolling in and him chanting, “Anál nathrach, orth’ bháis’s bethad, do chél dénmha.” (Merlin’s Charm of Making as interpreted by Michael Everson.)

And slowly the earth begins to rumble and growl as this castle breaks through the dirt and stone and rises up before him. Such a classic fantasy fiction moment.

But anyway…as so many have said, this is simply stunning. Photography at its finest.

As for a critique, well...this is a year old so I think the time has passed for that and besides, from what I can see you have things well in hand. Bravo!

Thank you for giving me this small moment to dream a little. :)

My family has been going up there many times a year since I was a baby, and a few years ago we bought a cabin up in Estes Park. So I don't consider myself a native of Estes, but don't consider myself a tourist either. :)
