Lake Of Romance by kkart Lake Of Romance by kkart
There is just something about being up here on a crisp Fall morning when the air is chilled and so fresh. Utterly quiet except the passing breeze and buzz of a Hummingbird now and then. Nobody around at all and you have it all to yourself. Just you, your camera, the mountains and sunrise.

It's very beautiful!

What made you decide you might want to sell your A550? (I'm looking for some decent lenses for mine ;))

oh I would sell it but I would be upgrading to the a77. I wouldn't change systems, no need to and it would just cost a lot of $ to do so. The a77 though isa complete beast of a camera

Yeahh far too heavy and bulky for me, but fantastic for someone like you I imagine :)

I'm loving my A550 (you said I would) but don't have much in the way of photos that are out of the ordinary, so I'm not uploading much at all these days, just the occasional macro from any camera I might have used at the time. Meanwhile I've ordered a Sigma 18-125mm OS Sony fit lens as a standard lens and will see how I get on with that (and hoping it will be compatible). My husband likes the A550 so much I bought him one for his birthday and he has taken on the Sony/Tamron 18-250 lens as he has a VERY steady hand and is better able to handle it I think. At least I still get access to it! I do have a couple of other lenses too, but it was for standard use that I was looking for something special with a good range. This Sigma seems to have very good reviews indeed, although in general I'm not a Sigma fan after the disaster I encountered with the 18-200 and its replacement which was even worse!!! Anyway, it goes back if it's not right!

I do so miss you here. Joined Google+ the other day and nearly went mental in the process - I've never had so much "verification" carried out in my life, even down to sending me a verification to type in from a text message on my mobile! WOTTT??? Arrgh. Then when I got in, I was dismayed to be honest, because it looks so much like Facebook, which I can't stand and don't use because I don't like the way it seems to want to work. I don't have time to make all the necessary discoveries about it all (and I know you wrote several articles about it, and so have some other people), so I guess I'll be making do with dear old dA! I hope all the "Nasties" don't start following the rest of you "Goodies" across there though, because that's what seems to happen to anything that starts out as a good project. But honestly, it does look so much like FB and "yet another social networking site" :(

The a550 really is a wonderful camera. I dearly love mine....I have had it almost 2 years now and the one thing I wish it did have is video. Ultimately the a77 is the way I want to go, and I am pretty sure I will be. I have looked at the a65 too which has the same sensor as the a77 but is smaller and not as featured and there are some things in that camera which would drive me batty lol

Gplus. G+ isn't to much like facebook, but a mashup of flickr, facebook and deviantart. The photography community on there is absolutely massive and there are hundreds of daily themes. I think most people who are new would say facebook simply because it is the only thing that they can relate it too, however in reality? Not a chance. It is amazing that right now and each and every day some of the biggest and best photographers in the world are holding "hangouts" using the built in conference software in Gplus to talk photography, to help others learn, to answer photography related questions.

Straight up Anna, I have never ever in my life seen anything like G+ before. It is literally a photographers paradise. So many have migrated to there, from DA & flickr it's amazing. The thing which I dearly love is that it isn't just about posting a photo but about the feedback, the conversation, communication and the in depth intimacy which can be had. Here are some examples of what I am talking about, make sure you read the replies too;

See what I mean? Look at G+ not as facebook more along the lines of DA in a sense. DA done right. No malware adverts, no little trolls running around .... just a lot of respectable adults who love photography combined with a lot of pro's who want to help others be better. I have met so many on G+ and I hjave met many new in real life friends who I now shoot with a regular basis. I have thrown photo meetups with people from G+ that were 20 people and have attended others that were close to 200! There is nothing else like it Anna anywhere!

If you need help understanding it all, my friend and pro photographer wrote an incredible article on hos photoblog which is updated on a regular basis titled "Google+: The Survival Guide for a Photographer’s Paradise v2.1" [link] That will contain everything (literally) you need to know and believe me, it answers any and every question. :)

Thanks; I have the Survival Guide link already and perhaps if I do get some time I'll try and look into it further. But to join the kind of circles I'd like to, and be fully part of them, I'd need to be able to produce photos of a far better calibre than I'm currently able to. Do you know that half an hour's macro shooting totally wipes me out for the rest of the day, leaving me shaky and very weak? I have the gear but setting it all up is equally exhausting for me. You already know of my problems with scenery shooting. All I can do is enjoy the vivid dreams I have at night in which I can do all of these things in another dimension! I fear it's too late.

John, I'll always look out for you while I'm on the net.

Actually no. Circles? Those are on YOUR end. That is your call. It has to do with how YOU organize people, as you have no control over who adds you to what circle :) Make sense? This is on your end, not someone else's. There is a huge critique circle though which is public and this is one aspect I dearly love about G+ that you won't fine on DA. People that actually give critiques and do it in such a respectable manner. I will hit up *Handie and ask her to chime in on this as she can explain that much better than I can.

Yeah I hear ya about shooting macros. Pretty back wrenching work! I have been shooting a LOT of macro work lately myself. Tons actually. I really need to get posting some on here.

Anyways you should come join us on G+. You have an Android cell phone by chance?

OK, but that just singles out the fact that I would probably not be included in the kind of circles I would like to be, if you see what I mean (because why would any progressing, serious photographer want to see my stuff). It could turn out to be a very lonely experience in which I add all of you, but that's that!

But the critique idea does sound good. Only people who hardly know what they're talking about seem to bother with those here!

I really look forward to seeing your macros - I bet they're great!

Nope, my mobile (which is only ever switched on in emergency) is rather an old Nokia. Actually I'm not even sure what an Android cell is? ;)

Why do YOU think it would be good for me to join?

Hi Anna,

John asked me to stop by and tell you a little bit about G+ and the critique group!

I have just recently become a moderator for the group.

Colby Brown created it and it's really just a way for photographers of all levels, to talk to each other about our work and ways in which we can make it better.

What people do is post a photo, and add the hash tag #BTLcritique and then when ever anyone sees that hash tag they can crit if they like.

The mods go around looking for photos that haven't been critiqued and remind others to give a little word on them.

Sometiems you get one or two comments, but I've also seen comments get many, many crits.

I have to admit that the first few times I went there, I thought about FB a lot too - but I know better now.

I've been here on DA for ... 4 years and I have few followers... but I've been on G+ for about a month or month and a half, an I have over 12,000 people who circled me. I don't circle them all back - just the ones I want to and people seem to be really cool about that. THe circles I have are of people who "I" want to see. If they add me back, they will see my content as well.

It's not all about the photos either - people really care. THe other day I asked a program question and I got about 30 comments from people wanting to help me.

I love DA, and I have some awesome friends here - but G+ is a whole other dynamic. I have learned SO much there and I LOVE it now.

If you were to really give it a try, I know you would enjoy it!
