This Red-winged Blackbird was very cautious of me, not knowing quite what to make of some photographer with a 400mm lens stalking him in the marsh reeds lol He kept looking over his shoulder checking to see where I was at, and that I wasn't going attack him while his buddy next to him was busy doing what Red-winged Blackbirds do, minding his own business.

I hope you all like it John

Well done here it is a great image. I love the depth of field, this I think is the main reason that the image is so successful. The colors created by the DOF are awesome. The composition is also nice, good rule of thirds and vertical lines. The only issue I have with the image is the first bird is not looking round at the camera. I know it is something that can not be controlled but this slightly unbalances the image. I have recently finished a series of bird images, and the technique you have used here will definitely influence my future work. I really really like the plant and the way it blurs in front and behind.
The side- lighting on the birds, along with a wonderful color palette and paper-thin DOF make this a really striking photo, and a nice little taste of fall. The title is perfect, too!
Oh, John, I just love this! The glints of light off the wings and the reeds is fabulous! That bird's eye is kinda spooky, too, which makes it all the more interesting! Well done!
