Did I mention I do macro photography too? lol This winter I have been working on a photography project which studies the color, patterns and abstraction in and of nature. Floral macro work has certainly played a very large part in this project. For some time now I have always been inspired by the macro work of Michael Brown [link] who has certainly played a very large part in influencing me.
The whole setup is rather crazy which I shoot with. Basically I use a Sigma 28-90mm macro which is 1:2x magnification, backed by a 2x TC and a +10 macro diopter resulting in magnification of around 4.5x life size. All I can say is thank goodness for live view and wireless shutter releases! It is amazing how at this kind of magnification every little thing is amplified, from the light within the scene no matter how subtle it is to the ever slightest breeze..so much even laying a finger on my tripod blurs the image. However that being said I love it, a lot. The ability with how the details of something just blend into the bokeh with the ultra narrow DOF is a lot of fun to work with, giving off this whimsical feel of color and focus.
Ya this winter has been super productive! I hope you all like it John
