Rural Colorado sets the scene for this horse barn I happened upon while out on one of my photography journeys. I really liked this barn, and I certainly have a love affair with catching them in a shot! However what really got me was the entire scene itself! The incoming storm really played a lot with the atmosphere in this, which reminded of the movie "Twister", it certainly has the kind of look and feel to it, at least to me it does. I really am a sucker for this kind of subject matter, I shoot it often but don't post it much, why, I don't know honestly....when in fact I love travel photography that has a nice rural/country feel to it. Hmmm, maybe I should post it more often, we'll see!

Very dark and moody picture. The lighting is good, and you have good control over the exposure, well helped by different filters. Colours and contrast is good, you can almost feel the heaviness of the low pressure by the richness of the colours. Only thing I would like to pick on is the composition. I would like to see the picture raised a bit, there is very little clearance between the frame and the weather horse on top of the roof. Also the roof over the horse corral on the right make me want to see more space on that side of the barn compared to the left side.
As a whole, this piece just works really well visually. The dark slate clouds complement the metal roof of the barn in color. It also enhances the old feeling of the barn wood. I'm not entirely sure what I think about the fence. On the one hand, I would have liked to see an older fence, but on the other hand, the white is so striking against the dark that it really brings focus to the barn. I guess that would just be up to personal preference.
I think the touch of having the barn doors open is really striking. It's like peering into a dark void of the unknown. Being an artist and not a photographer, I don't know anything about the technique used to take this picture, but I do know that the picture just works, and it works well! As a whole, it's an amazing photograph!
