This morning I woke up and felt the chill of Autumn in the air. For the first time this year, I feel Autumn closing in, fast, my favorite time of the year here in Colorado. The beauty is simply amazing, the rustling of the Golden Aspens, the reds of the Sugar Maple's, the warmth of the sun while the air is cool, crisp, and fresh.
The light this time of the year is some of the best for photography here, it becomes almost alive as it shimmers against the changing color of the trees. As so it is in this shot.....
Captured in the historical Alluvial Fan part of Rocky Mountain National Park, a place where an entire mountain blew out and caused mass flooding on July 15, 1982. [link] It is an area that is simply amazing to see in person, and the destruction among nature and the landscape it caused. However over these years, nature has began to rekindle and rebuild....and in this area it is strong and stunning!
I went after the light in this shot, feeling that the stormy Autumn sky coming over the mountains, against the yellow Aspen's really made for some VERY dramatic contrast. I used a custom white balance on this shot, similar to my cameras "Sunset' setting to get the color dead on the money. Processed in HDR to get the detail I wanted in the foreground. This was shot last year, and heaven knows I still have a ton of shots from my Autumn adventures.
Hope ya like it! Can ya feel the cool chill from Autumn? Print to come! ---John
