This is probably the last thing most people want to see coming straight at them, and let me tell you guys, this was perhaps the craziest photoshoot I had ever been on. I was actually out to shoot the sunset over the Rockies, and I did, but the sunset was fighting this storm, like battle of Heaven vs Hell.
I am not kidding you, the storm got real violent and I was anticipating the sound of tornado sirens at any second. Check out that wall cloud on the right with the rain coming down, I took quite a few shots until my Mom who was with me and driving (she loves going with me shooting) said "I think it's time we get the heck out of here!"
I left the road in on purpose along with the speed limit sign to show a sense of scale, besides, I think it kind of works with the whole country road look and feel.
Selectively blended HDR in areas, shot on my Minolta 18-200DT Lens, Singh-Ray CPL, Lightroom, Dynamic Photo HDR and PS.
I was hunting, on the north rim of the Grand Canyon and I found myself in a similar position... Unable to see even the base of the mountain I was heading for. I refused to enter, especially after the grey wall was illuminated deep within by lightening. Wet hungry and cranky, with a loaded weapon, my partner eventually agreed.
Now that's my kind of weather! But the time when you should "get the heck out" is when the best photo opportunities come up! You can't leave! I've had to hide under a bridge before because of this. It didn't stop me from shooting though.
Definitely a good choice to include the road in this one. Kind of serves to anchor the foreground in the shot.
Dude the exposure that you have managed on this scene is simply brilliant.. I wonder how u managed it, i am sure no camera can capture it with that precision, hence the use of word brilliant. would love to know How u used HDR in this one ?
Holy shit man! I am glad you are out there getting shots like this so I can drool.. Didnt know you were out chasing storms this year... Shows where I have been all these days. lol Fantastic weather capture john!
