An Evening Mountain Glow by kkart An Evening Mountain Glow by kkart
Right kind of light at the right place....needless to say I was pretty elated to be sitting where i was at to shoot this and just take in the light and watch it transform the scenery before me. This is one of those scenes that I don't think I would have been able to get if it wasn't for my a550's in camera HDR ability....really a tricky exposure situation and it was really a challenge to get it. I managed though and I am dang happy I did! The wildflowers were just glowing!

Boreas Pass Colorado

I hope you all like it
John

I was wondering if I could use this picture on ponybox.com. I was going to add more pictures to it to make graphic. Then I would sell it for virtual money. Is this a problem?

Wow. I'd have never guessed this was an in-camera jpeg if you hadn't said anything. It really is a top shot, and it seems like you're enjoying that a550 (and using it for all its worth!).

Gorgeous layers, the light on the midground trees creates a clever link with the yellow flowers in the foreground.

Which HDR setting are you using btw?
I'm still having a few problems using HDR and the DRO settings.
A few tips would be much appreciated!

well it depends, I generally stay between level 1.5-2.5...here is the thing I have noticed with the HDR settings, the less light that there is in the scene, the higher the setting. It is rare that I ever go to a full 3, because it can be way to strong, there are times though when it does come in handy on 3, this scene as example [link] Just know that the higher the HDR setting, the slower the shutter speed--your exposures slow down. So in essence:
The more light, the lighter the HDR setting. Low light=higher HDR setting.

Help any?

Okay makes sense.
I know I should experiment with HDR a bit more from the camera.
I got a few amazing indoor shots using the auto-HDR, but still nothing serious outdoor.
Thanks John!

An in-camera HDR mode? Not heard of that before, I'm intrigued, I shall have to go investigate.

This is a superb shot, really nice. As you say, it's just nice to be out when the conditions are like this.
