A Touch Of Dawn by kkart A Touch Of Dawn by kkart
Dawn battles with the night sky as the city of Golden and Lakewood, Colorado slowly start to show signs awaking from their sleeping slumber.

Captured along the top of Lookout Mountain, I am not sure what star that is to the left of the Moon, my best guess is maybe Venus?

About a 25 second exposure using my Sony a550 and my Minolta 18-200DT lens. I hope you all like it.
John

Hello there, so I basically just wanted to let you know that I was using your image to experiment on. Basically, I wanted to see how big Saturn would look to us if it were as close as our moon, so I needed a landscape photo with the moon in it and found your photo to be ideal. I cracked some numbers to get the right measurements for the relative size of Saturn and blended it into your photograph at the right size. I didn't post it on deviantArt, but I did post it as a status on my facebook and linked it to your original image for your credit. Hope that's alright with you. What do you think of the image? =P

What time was this taken at? I'd love to do a shot like this but getting up early enough to do it would be tough. Really love how well the sky came out, that is easily the best part of the photo.

I love how you wrote in the description "Dawn battles with the night sky as the city of Golden and Lakewood, Colorado slowly start to show signs awaking from their sleeping slumber. "
You can definitely see that playing out in the shot.

While correct, I don't know if it is a star OR a planet, Venus is just a guess however. Could be Starship Enterprise for all I know lol Covering the bases though

:wow: I really like how dark this is compared to most of your other shots. The dark blue sky adds such a richness to this photo that I love. I'm not a huge fan of the towers in the foreground, but I don't think they take away from the landscape overall. Just turns it into more of an urban shot, which is just fine. Well done, John. :)

Hey thanks! This exposure was a bitch to get, I have to admit, facing south I had the brightness coming in from dawn to the east (left side) and the darkness of night to the west (right side) I decided to leave in the towers for a sense of scale, I do have a shot where I zoomed in and alleviated them, but the red lights atop of them kind of added a little something extra to the whole scene. It was fun and dang it was quiet! Just Coyotes crying :) Kind of going for more travel photography here than anything.

It looks like it would have been tricky! I do like the towers there for the sense of scale. I get the travel photography thing, now that you mention it. This would definitely look sweet in a magazine!
