A Passageway to the Past-The Santa Fe Door Series, Image 1
And so it begins, my series of the city of Santa Fe and it's doors.
Santa Fe lives up to the reputation New Mexico has as being "The Land of Enchantment". No other city in America is like Santa Fe, with it's distinct architecture dating back to the middle ages with the Spanish missions, and enriched in Native American culture and folklore. It is one of my all time favorite cities, and if the cost of living there wasn't so high, I would jump at it! More art than I ever seen.....It is just a gorgeous city.
This is a project that I have always wanted to do, photographing the doors down there since I first saw them in 1990. Though my realization of shooting them wouldn't come for another 5 years. It has always been on ,y list of things to do, and well....I did it finally!
A lil note on the doors themselves----Many are hundreds of years old, and though the photo may NOT look like it's straight, it actually is. Many of these doors are crooked, and weathered down through the years. Many are done very artistic and with a lot of pride taken in their creation. Just remember, if it looks crooked, the door actually is, not the photo!!!
It amazes me the history and craftmanship that goes in to these doors in Santa Fe...if they could tell stories I would imagine that they would talk for hours. I seriously need to get back down there and shoot more again, it is a beautiful city with a lot of unique history and culture, loaded with many photo opportunities.
i pass by doors like this everyday. but i never really look at them.... i never thought about how old they are... but people still use them everyday. its crazy what an outside look at your city by someone else will teach you.
